The sea is a feeling. It’s a song

Capri always has some beautiful little corner hidden away. A view that you haven’t seen before, a path that you haven’t walked along. A scent, a flavour, a song.riccardo-pecoraro-capri

Like the song that is also the title of a video by Umberto D’Aniello, O mare ‘e notte. The music and words are by Riccardo Pecoraro and it is performed by Mario Bindi accompanied on the guitar by Rosaria De Gregorio. It was recorded, mixed and amalgamated by Al Martino in a perfect acoustic environment, and is the combined creation of people who love music, their island and, inevitably, the sea. “The sea in this song is a night sea, deep and mysterious,” explains Riccardo Pecoraro. “It’s an enormous thing, so beautiful and terrible, at times gentle, that in reality it is an amplifier of our own feelings, a cradle (cònnola) of our thoughts, and of the nocturnal wistfulness that becomes both a frown and a smile at the same time.” It all came from an idea by Umberto D’Aniello. “I’d like to make a video with Mario Bindi; can you write a song for him?” he asked his musician friend. “Since I happen to think that Mario has the finest male voice on our island, I didn’t need much persuasion,” says Pecoraro. “In fact, the song was ready just a couple of days later. I thought that as well as being a singer, Mario is above all a fisherman, one of those people capable of forgetting the world, on his boat or on the rocks at Punta Carena, and becoming part of the marine dimension. And Mario Bindi entered into this feeling and sang as if the piece had always belonged to him. Then there’s the guitar of another marine creature, Rosaria De Gregorio, who provided a graceful counterpoint to the ancestral power of the voice of this singer-fisherman.

So don’t wait any longer: listen to the song and watch the poetic images on the video and lose yourself in the magic of the music and sea of Capri.
