Anche chi non ha mai visto Capri dal vivo la “conosce” o “riconosce” dai colori e dalle mille sfumature che il suo paesaggio riesce a regalare in ogni stagione. Viene naturale chiedersi, allora, se un libro fotografico in bianco e nero possa rappresentare l’isola in maniera coerente e veritiera. La risposta è sì!

Le 64 fotografie realizzate da Giancarmine Arena ci mostrano un’isola ricca di poesia e le luci catturate dall’obiettivo della macchina fotografica restituiscono ai sensi un’idea di colore tutta personale. Ogni osservatore potrà leggere nel bianco e nero delle immagini la sfumatura di colore che più si addice al proprio stato d’animo, al proprio ricordo, al proprio vissuto o all’idea che ci si è fatti di questo posto magico.

Su tutto domina la natura con profili paesaggistici particolarmente vivi e intensi, quasi surreali in alcuni scatti, e dove si percepisce fortemente l’assenza dell’uomo. Questa assenza è protagonista anche quando ad essere ritratte sono le architetture più o meno famose dell’isola.

È Capri l’unica protagonista, che sfacciata e fiera emerge dalle pagine e, anche in bianco e nero, riesce a trasmettere la stessa potenza dei colori.

The 64 photographs taken by Giancarmine Arena show us an island full of poetry, and the different light captured by his camera lens restores a very personal idea of colour to our senses. All observers will be able to read in the black and white of the images the gradations of colour that best match their state of mind, their memories, their experiences or the idea that they have acquired of this magical place.

Nature dominates over everything, with particularly vivid and intense profiles of the landscape that are almost surreal in some shots, and where we are struck by the absence of people. This absence is central, even when the photographs feature the architecture of the island, famous or otherwise.

Capri is the only true protagonist, emerging from the pages bold and proud, and it manages to transmit the same power of its colours even in black and white.
