Per molti anni Capri è stata il trampolino di lancio di tante mode, colori, stili.
E anche lo scenario di un evento che ha fatto storia: Mare Moda Capri.
Tutto inizia nel 1961 quando con il concorso giornalistico “Moda e Turismo in Italia” indetto da comuni, enti e associazioni campane viene lanciata l’idea di realizzare manifestazioni di moda che si svolgessero nelle più suggestive località d’Italia. Capri non poteva che essere tra queste e nel settembre del 1967, grazie anche al sostegno di due capresi d’elezione come Emilio Pucci e Livio de Simone, prende il via quello che sarebbe diventato per dodici anni uno tra gli eventi clou della moda italiana ma non solo. Lo organizzano Rudi Crespi e Giorgio Pavone, Pasquale Acampora ne viene nominato presidente e Sergio Capece Minutolo segretario generale.
Incontri internazionali di moda, mostre, convegni, dibattiti, presentazioni di libri fanno da corollario alle sfilate che vanno in scena tra le mura della Certosa, a Marina Piccola, ad Anacapri e nel teatro del Grand Hotel Quisisana.
E poi c’è un premio, il Tiberio d’Oro, che alla prima edizione viene vinto da Emilio Pucci. Ma l’albo d’oro della manifestazione annovera tanti nomi: Cardin, Rabanne, Gucci, Valentino, Ferrè, Givenchy, Sarli, De Simone, Missoni, Krizia, solo per citarne alcuni. La rassegna chiude i battenti nel 1978 ma quelle sfilate resteranno per sempre nella storia dell’isola azzurra.

For many years Capri has been the springboard for a host of trends, colours and styles. And it was also the setting for an event that made history: Mare Moda Capri (Sea Fashion Capri).
It all began in 1961 when, launched in tandem with the journalist competition “Fashion and Tourism in Italy” held by local authorities, organizations and associations in Campania, came the idea of organizing fashion shows that would take place in the most beautiful locations in Italy. Capri obviously had to be among them, and in September 1967, with the support of two people who had made Capri their adopted home, Emilio Pucci and Livio de Simone, came the first of what was to become one of the key fashion events in Italy and abroad for the next twelve years.
It was organized by Rudi Crespi and Giorgio Pavone, while Pasquale Acampora was appointed president and Sergio Capece Minutolo secretary general. International fashion events, exhibitions, conferences, debates and book presentations provided a corollary to the catwalk shows that took place inside the walls of the Certosa, at Marina Piccola, in Anacapri and in the theatre at the Grand Hotel Quisisana.
There was also a prize, the Tiberio d’Oro, which was won at the first edition by Emilio Pucci. But the roll of honour for the event includes many famous names: Cardin, Rabanne, Gucci, Valentino, Ferrè, Givenchy, Sarli, De Simone, Missoni and Krizia, to mention just a few. The event came to a close in 1978 but those fashion shows will remain forever in the history of the azure isle.
